Re: JAVA. NO!!! They did NOT write extensions to JAVA! That implies that JAVA applets will run on Microsoft Machines. They took existing JAVA functions, sub-classed them and returned different values. Like changing an Integer Return Code and changed it to a Character Return Code response. That is not an extension... that is replacement which screws all the good little programmers who are trying to write Vanilla code. I have no problem ADDING functionality. I have a problem CHANGING existing functionality in this manner. Re: NT Workstation 4.0 Licensing Issue This is a prime example of them implicitly admitting: "We can't write a WebServer as good as WEBSite in the forseeable future, so we'll leverage our monopoly in the Operating Systems area to essentially force people to either stay at Version 3.51, or to move to the Server Version of our Wonderful Product. By the way, because we care for you, our customer, for a limited time we have special a upgrade pricing deal for you... and you get our Server for FREE!" "What's that you say, you want support because the Server doesn't appear to be as friendly as you'd like? What do you expect for free?" I expect that I'll be Bill Gates' towel boy soon enough. --------------------------------------------------------------------- The problem I have with Microsoft is that they are NOT a good citizen in the corporate world. They are gradually being perceived (with the help of the DOJ action) in their true colors. They wrap themselves in a banner stating, "Everyone is against us because we are big! And they are all jealous! If they could, they would do the same thing!" I'm sorry, but I don't buy that argument. While this is a cut-throat business, there are STILL companies that behave ethically. I also believe the statement that "If MS is doing something illegal, I expect it will be corrected" is somewhat optimistic. When IBM was broken up, it was possible, due in part, that the company was basically honest. Company Values flow down from the top and there appears to be more of a "rogue elephant" mentality. With Gates and Ballmer, I don't see the same type of situation as IBM had. I DO feel there are good and honest people who work for Microsoft, but I'll leave it to others to find and identify them. This is why I am a "Microsoft Hater" (MH #6, I believe).
