I have had some experience with physician assistants and have been very impressed. They seem to be able to do what doctors can do in many settings and they're a whole lot better at explaining things. I made two trips to the ER last year for kidney stones and they were wonderful. The only problem was that they couldn't do anything--particularly give me much needed pain meds--without waiting around for a doctor's approval. But all my interactions with them were otherwise excellent.
