I was looking at some data from 1999. DOD had 1.4 million in uniform and 700K in civies. I am not a logistician but here are some basics. AS of 3/31/2009 US Army 548,894 US Navy 331,921 US Air Force 331,610 US Marine Corps 201,104 Total DOD Military - 1,412,529 ___________________________________ Total DOD direct civilian hires as of Feb 2009 Report. 678,025 in military functions 21,784 in DOD civil functions This does not include an estimated 500,000+ other military contractors paid from other DOD resources, military operating funds and special congressional allocations. ___________________________________ DOD Money is managed by - 11,752 in DFAS Defense Finance and Accounting Service. Also each service has its own uniformed finance and accounting service. 280 BTA Business Transformation Agency 171 DARPA Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency 23,111 DLA Defense Logistics Agency And numerous other defense agencies. Now we can add 20,000 more to that.
