Growth Seen at 9-10 Percent Next Year -- Economist .....................

insidechina.com

BEIJING -- China's economic growth was expected to reach about 9-10 percent next year while inflation would not rise above five percent, the China Daily Business Weekly said on Sunday.

China would succeed in maintaining its high growth rate coupled with low inflation, the newspaper quoted State Statistical Bureau spokesman Qiu Xiaohua as saying.

China's gross domestic product grew by nine percent in the first three quarters of this year and was expected to maintain that level for the whole year, Qiu said last week.

Benchmark retail price inflation was 1.3 percent in the first nine months with no major rebound in sight, Qiu said.

Qiu said the government would not take measures to stimulate economic growth, keeping to a policy of stability.

However, he said interest rates changes and policies to foster investment in infrastructure and encourage spending on housing were possible. (Reuters)
