This country was built on science and tech. If you want us to become a has-been country, then we can continue on the path we are going now.

It's not debatable that science, tech, and innovation have driven the progress of this country. What IS debatable is whether we "grew" those scientists "in-house" or imported intellectual talent through immigration.

Thus, I would suggest that it's OUR VALUES related to individualism and free-thinking that has built our country. Without those values to create incentive and innovation, you wouldn't have nearly the amount of scientific progress that we've seen. That is why I continue to see foreigners coming to US universities for their education. Some return home, but many more stay here and innovate.

So in reality.. we ARE creating armies of scientists as we remain the largest research community in the world. The problem is that we have a lot of Americans who'd rather be athletes than scientists because they've been programmed to believe sports has greater financial value.
