Darrell. The close today is the first test of the theory that these market circuit breakers can be counter-productive. I once heard it explained this way. Suppose the Dow without controls would correct 600 points then rebound. By halting for the day (as we did today) with no chance for recovery, a strong panic condition is maintained overnight. The theory goes that it will result in a greater and longer panic than if they just let human nature and the selloff run its course.
Of course there's no way to prove it and I know it's all just theorizing, but what do you think?
