I consider the Mathew Shepard case a separate issue from the one you and CJ have been embroiled in and I don't mind discussing it with people who are able to remain adult and rational. Let's see where it goes.

I don't have to look it up, the brutal event was covered here in great detail. It seems like yesterday to me, as do the Columbine murders which were also here. The event brought awareness to a complicated and many faceted issue.

You seem to be saying it justifies homophobic expressions. Homophobic expressions are abnormal and sick and are not excused by referring to Mathew Shepard's tragic end. If anything, the opposite is true. Violence against people just because they are different than you, in and of it self, is not excusable nor is it an excuse to act out on your fears of the label.
