They do not udnerstand what we are saying. We might as well be speaking Greek. They are unaware. That is why the right and left talk past each other. Ironiclly, the left has some idea what the right is thinking because we have all been unaware at some point in our life. But the reverse is not true. Knowledge is learned. Additionally, as you well know, one cannot see something they cannot understand. Scientfic Ameerican calls it "knowledge directed perception". I think it is about time we start calling a spade a spade e.g. Bush, Cheney, Beck, Rush, Hannity, Coulter, O'reilly, Bachman, etc, are not saying anything that makes sense, yet the Republican party not only genuflects to them, but tries to form a political platform based on their psychobable.
