It also demonstrates the declining role of parents in a child's upbringing. Schools are increasingly relied upon as day care centers where teachers act as virtual nannies. State-funded after-school programs are a substitute for real parental guidance and mentorship.

Even Ted will admit to that ... when he isn't too busy defending liberal education policies from the "vast right-wing conspiracy" ...
