It is not possible to build a country if a man's only loyalty is to his own tribe.

Our disaster there is just beginning. I place most of the blame on our State Dept that should have known better. They went with the Expats and put them back in control in Kabul. If they were worth a damn they wouldn't have had to leave. Their chief asset was experience in how to suck up to Western Govs. They couldn't walk the Kabul streets without foreign bodyguards. They have no tribal backing. What they do have is our money and our army to keep them in power. It's the Russian situation from the '80s. Only this time it's us.

We should have made a deal with the chief thug of the Northern Alliance after wiping out Al Qaeda. Pay him for all the Poppies he can collect and back him up with some air power. And cleared out. Our main ally in that area has to be India. Making a deal with those Muslims in Pakistan is a fools bargain.

But Nooooo!
