I guess you aren't old enough to remember environmentalists whining about paper bags and the poor trees. The same way they did about wooden baseball bats.

Sure! The environmentalist are the blame for plastic. Those little 'boogers' were really active back in 1862 when Alexander Parks demonstrated the first man-made plastic in London at a World's Fair exhibit.

Actually there is some truth to the 'protestors' causing the first viable use of such material (celluliod -- a plastic derivative)in that the MJs of the world didn't mind killing a few (matter of fact...a lot) of bull elephants so they could harvest their ivory to make billiard balls.

Ironically, we as a group that speaks of civilization are bound and determined that eventually humankind will all be behind the eight ball.
