Back in 04 while supporting Bush, i made the great mistake of defending Kerry from the swiftboaters. My feeling is that any person going to war for his country should be presumed innocent of any wrong doing unless proved beyond a reasonable doubt otherwise. I was on Lindy Bills thread and they they ran me off. It was more than that because i also criticised the little tent strategy of bush/rove. I urged a bigger tent like reagan that included more moderates who were very concerned at the strategic threat from AQ but not sure of iraq or preemption strategy. I was talking to the powells, snowcrofts, jim bakers, who had been shut out on FP as well as moderate democrats who were not crazed like zell miller. Purity is what they wanted and because of kerrys multiple weaknesses as a candidate, they won. I called them then the 50% party. Well now they are at best the 33% party and still sinking throwing away folks from mccain to schwarzennegger. But they are so pure it boggles but they are also so old, male and white as to not now or perhaps ever again represent the majority of americans who are far more diverse. (they hate that diverse word).
