KLP, you're right, there were a lot of people responsible for slavery. I don't think the argument was really about slavery though. I think it was more about the "flexibility" of the constitution. Would the guys that wrote it think that history might require some changes...? If changes were needed should the court intercede or should it just stand back and wait for the "legislative process" to work its way through it...? Even after 230 years I don't think we've really figured out the EXACT "balance of power" that would be BEST in this still rather nascent Democracy we live in.
