it should be apparent even to you that the british had little to do with hk's success, else england would not be in the sorry shape it now is in, and new zealand would be a larger hong kong, for the logic is so simple for all to see

chinese hk + british hk = success
chinese hk - british hk + chinese mainland = success x 2
