I didn't read about congress trying to save the Boston Globe. What reasoning is used?

Congress is trying to save the Boston Globe which is owned by the NY Times. The excuse being "job preserving".

It would be interesting to know how many people are employed by the Globe.

When the Seattle P-I shut down its print edition and went to a lame online version, I believe it was reported their employees numbered in the low 200s. Not a major employer in my book.
