"You think that the fact that distortions and lies are repeated with the goal of deceiving and justifying a war that would not justify itself on obvious grounds is not more severe that a foot in mouth incident in which a VP says that he would not put his family on a plane during an outbreak of the flu?"

Well, no. Isn't it obvious?

These sort of false equivalences is one of the hallmarks of the Right. Shorty is our local expert on this type of thing.

"On what standards are you operating? "

It is called winning at all costs. Probably one of Tenchu's laws of partisanship.

The war was totally justified on obvious grounds.

The Bush Administration made a huge mistake in rationalizing the war on the grounds of what turned out to be faulty intelligence.

They should have just said, "We inherited a bad situation in Iraq, where the previous president had allowed Saddam to repeatedly violate the terms of the cease fire agreement. It is necessary that we now remove him."

That's all the explanation needed for rational people.

I hear Biden also voted for invading Iraq. True story:

en.wikipedia.org

In 2002, as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he stated that Saddam Hussein was "a long term threat and a short term threat to our national security" and that United States has "no choice but to eliminate the threat".[40] He also said, "I think Saddam either has to be separated from his weapons or taken out of power." [41]Biden also supported a failed resolution authorizing military action in Iraq only after the exhaustion of diplomatic efforts,[42] Biden argued that Saddam Hussein possesses chemical and biological weapons and is seeking nuclear weapons;[43] he subsequently voted in favor of authorizing the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
