Humility is drummed into us in our culture, mostly because of religion, ie, truth comes from God, so our task is to be...humble...and open our mind to the mind of God, and let his truth flow into us..we are passive in this regard...but thinking is an active process, requiring gathering of facts, making generalizations, linking together different ideas into an integrated framework...the sin of the devil was pride, ie, putting up his own judgement as superior to that of God...

so i think humility is more of a trap in our culture than guidance for action and thinking...other words are more appropriate to describe the limitations and errors that can occur in our thinking.

arrogance or evasion maybe better description of vice than pride, a willful blindness to facts and the relations between our ideas...eg, our politicians not noticing the link between fiat money and the exponential growth of debts in our economy is probably more from evasion than pride...they cant fit it into their view that govt needs to take action and spend more money, so they ignore the problems with fiat money and continue to move ahead.
