InfoTainment drives profits up (because it is cheap to produce), and it drives diversity and quality (in news) down. Quality maybe, diversity probably not. Infotainment to the extent its new, adds to diversity, and there are all sorts of serious news sources out there as well, so I'm not even sure about the quality part, even if you are just limiting it to news, except perhaps if your talking about a decline from some cherry picked peak of quality rather than from a long term quality level that had been reached and maintained for decades.
