I think that the government has acted like thugs with the secured creditor's rights being trashed. I believe that the ramifications are going to be a huge disincentive to anyone who wants to develop a business. The short term effect will be the complete failure of the american auto industry, the long term effect will be the steady migration of business away from the U.S. This is the kind of crap that you would expect from a communist country in Africa or South America where the government goes in and nationalizes a company and takes the assets from the owners. It undermines a basic trust that is required for business to exist.
