Don't get me wrong, I think SGI has great tech value. However as far as integrating technologies (IBM's and SGI's) I think is a highly "lossy" prospect. Think of HP-Apollo. In then final analysis very little extant Apollo products or technologies made it into the HP products. HP did pick up a talented staff -- but a number of the best (as is always true) jumped ship as well, when the merger made their stock values jump (and they could afford to take a financial risk).

I think SGI has great value in many of the areas IBM is addressing, it's just not clear how one would integrate their overlapping technologies and products without huge canabalistic losses.

But hey, I don't know ANYTHING. I could be wrong. I've certainly been so before! ;-)
