Your synopsis is very clear. Another way to tackle
the fundamental problem is to answer the following
question:

Do you think that Alan Greenspan will "cave in" to
the White House pressure or "be the goat" for a collapse
in financial asset values?

I think Greenspan also foresaw the potential problem
as did Hashimoto. It brings Greenspan's warnings and
motivations even more into perspective.
