I am sure you probably know, but being from the New England area and having lived for years on Martha's Vineyard, I was surprised when first I was told that originally, lobster was considered a very low class meat, and it was only used by the poor as a last resort food source.

I guess it was thought to be a bottom feeding scavenger and besides, it looked something like a spider.. yuk..

Fashion and taste have rendered the meat into a delicacy, but using it as lunch meat would have been just about normal for the working class in an earlier era.
