CALIFORNIA GRAPHICS: New Hawk 3D Pro accelerator is one of the first with AGP for ultra fast graphics Presswire - October 27, 1997 16:52 V%M2 P%M2PR -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jump to first matched term M2 PRESSWIRE-27 October 1997-CALIFORNIA GRAPHICS: New Hawk 3D Pro TV Video accelerator is one of the first with AGP for ultra fast graphics (C)1994-97 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD California Graphics, the 3D performance specialist, has launched one of the first graphics card for the recently introduced Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP), which is based on the S3 ViRGE/GX2. The AGP enables texture data to be transferred at twice the speed of a conventional PCI bus transfer and reduces the amount of CPU overhead, freeing up CPU time for improved rendering. The Hawk 3D Pro TV 64-bit board has a high performance 3D engine that provides greater than 30Mtexel/sec fill rates for exceptionally high scene quality and faster frame rates. It also has an integrated TV encoder that outputs NTSC/PAL composite or S-video signals so that TVs can be used to give high quality, large displays for presentations, games or true 30 frames per second DVD playback. It can simultaneously output images to a TV and to a computer monitor with individual adjustment of each image so that it is displayed at the optimal refresh rate and resolution to give maximum display quality for each device. The two images can even be different if required. Vincenzo Coccoli, Chairman and CEO of California Graphics, commented: "The AGP gives a really exciting performance and this dual output opens up a number of exciting new possibilities for users such as video conferencing with a different image on each, big screen action for computer games, or multi-player games where you can see two views." The 4 MB of high performance, 30ns access time, SGRAM (Synchronous Graphic Random Access Memory) is driven at 100 MHz and supported by a 212 MHz RAMDAC to deliver very fast refresh rates and high quality images, as it is designed to address the high speed, wide I/O requirements of demanding 2D and 3D graphics applications. There is a feature connector that enables industry standard MPEG decoders and video digitisers to be added as daughter boards. Streams Processor The Streams Processor technology allows simultaneous display of graphics and video of different colour depths and resolutions, combining them on screen with a high degree of realism for games. This also saves memory bandwidth and storage capacity while permitting higher frame rates. The technology provides the horizontal and vertical interpolation (or stretching) and YUV colour space conversion features required for high quality, full screen video playback with both software CODECs and hardware MPEG sources for MPEG, Indeo and Cinepack movies, including playback of DVD. Advanced 3D The Hawk 3D Pro TV is fully compatible with Microsoft's Direct 3D and uses Microsoft approved drivers for a very reliable performance. 3D features include flat and Gouraud shading, perspective correction, bi-linear and tri-linear texture filtering, MIP-Mapping, depth cueing, fogging, alpha blending, video texture mapping and z-buffering. Easy to configure The Hawk 3D DX board is fully Plug & Play and is supplied with a set of utilities called CGP Reality Pro that provide an advanced, yet easy-to-use, means of controlling the display. The software features sophisticated monitor adjustment tools to change the resolution and colour depth on the fly, link a particular application with a specific video mode, and zoom enlarge any portion of the display by up to ten times. The CD also includes a copy of Electronic Art's FireFight 3D game. Drivers Drivers are provided for Windows 3.11, Windows NT 3.51 and 4.0, Windows 95, AutoCAD 10/11/12/13 (including 3D Studio and AutoShade) and DOS. Pricing A PCI version is also available and both versions of the Hawk 3D Pro TV board cost GBP 99. So, for example, if a texture is reduced in size, several texels may be processed to make a screen pixel.
