San Francisco reinstates Junior ROTC program

Tragedy in the Bay area, Ted. How could this happen here of all places and now, in the age of Obama, too?

Ethel C. Fenig

Choice is finally returning to San Francisco as the city's school board, reversing a 2006 vote, agreed to allow Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) programs in the city's high schools. It was banned three years ago mainly because the then school board was opposed to the military's policy on homosexuals in the Armed Forces.

What has changed? According to the San Francisco Business Times:

The four members who voted to remove the program three years ago are no longer on the school board.

Students who do not want to take ROTC do not have to but finally, those who do will now have an opportunity to do so. And even in San Francisco there should be many students who will be grateful for this choice.
