Personally i think the Iraq war was about getting our troops out of Saudi Arabia.

Could be, who know how those sick bastards think?

My take is that there were a confluence of agendas in the Bush admin., all pointing toward war with Iraq:

W wanted to finish the job Poppy left unfinished, be a "war president" and show him up, silence his critics that had been saying for ten years - "Poppy should have taken Saddam OUT!"

Rumsfeld want to try some new theories out, show that the Powell Doctrine was crap and play with his army men.

The neocons wanted to position an American army in the ME to give Israel some heavyweight local implied backup.

Cheney wanted a war so his cronies could profit, big time.

The (R)'s wanted a war because they knew they could use the kneejerk political support it brings to get W a second term.
