I think when a snake appears on the side of the road or a bear approaches, the primal part of the brain takes over and it's fight or flight. I don't think that's what's important in the discussion here. What's crucial is how we respond to those snakes with two legs who tend to push our buttons each day. I can talk a fair game, but when it comes to the day in and day out problems of dealing with the moment, I certainly don't always make it to the head of the class.

Somehow I'm reminded of the Seinfeld episode from a couple weeks ago where Mr. Castanza kept shouting "Serenity now!!." Despite that show, affirmations have sometimes have made a difference, although I don't use any now (guess they didn't work all that well). "Forgiveness is the key to happiness" and "I could see peace instead of this" are a couple decent ones.
