I've been looking for something I can raise for food that my neighbors won't just steal, come the collapse. Forget chickens or pigs, they will be taken in the first few months. But I figure they won't come for my rats until they get really desperate.

For the same reason, I am growing acorns instead of more edible nut trees. Figure my neighbors won't know how to grind them and leach them, so will leave them alone.
