I think I would prefer both the presentation of the consequences AND a moral message. "Don't smoke. It's not worth it."

There was an article in Men's Health about a former exec in the tobacco industry who was in charge of trying to market the product. He was supposed to go out and find out why people love smoking so much. Well to make a long story short, everyone he talked to said the same thing. They HATE it. It wasn't too long afterwards that he quit his job and began a program to quit smoking himself.

A message like that would resonate much more than cold medical info.
