The gay marriage issue is a matter of simple logic. Gays are born preferring their own gender to the other genders. Very simple. As human beings they want the same thing everyone wants i.e. to find a mate and get married. So society must allow them the same rights as heterosexual folks. Simple. Marriage is an institution that gives mates lots of social rights and many in the gay community also want the same spiritual blessing others want. So the only logical way for a society to address gay marriage is to treat gays just like everyone else. This gay marriage issue involves the same primitive lack of logic which allowed slavery and segregation. And just using plain old sterile logic not allowing gays to marry is NO different than segregation. They are exactly the same issue. The gay marriage issue is a tad more complicated than segregation, but not much. Goes back to the fallacy of "separate but equal". Separate is inherently unequal. I think the bigger lesson we learn from this debate is how difficult it seems for the rightwing to grasp it. The right wing cannot grasp evolution, global warming, peak oil, pollution, sex education, family planning and so many other important concepts to the human species going forward in both a safe and civilized way. And the reason the kids are gravitating to the liberal philosophy in droves, is that they are learning to think clearly and in a more sophisticated manner. Especially with the demise of children being brain washed from birth with primitive dogmas >> You know I probably was against gay marriage 30 year ago; then a guy named Smith was transferred to our office in USAID Washington (USAID was an independent govt agency under the US State Dept.). State wanted him out of State because he was a confirmed homosexual. However, he had won a court case and they were unable to fire him. Somehow state got him transferred to USAID. He told me no one could compromise him since he admitted to being gay; but someone might be able to compromise a married man with a set-up girl. Sounded right to me. He was a good co-worker and probably changed my views a lot. Now I could care less about that kind of stuff ; if a person is a good soul, and is trying that is all that counts. It sounds like you have seen this from the other side and it has been hard; best to you for your struggle; i hope most people do not judge you on the wrong concerns.<<
