i found many different situations , some thrive on being pregnant and will not slow down.. Others cannot wait until the baby arrives yet work as long as they can do it. Then there are some who cannot get home fast enough to prepare for the baby. It's similar to people who return to work after major surgery although the doctor recommends taking a few more weeks. Some do great, others find out how weak they are and change their minds and listen to their doctor. Some hurt themselves and end up staying out much longer than if they listened to their doctor.

upon return it is a huge adjustment after having a baby. Some couldn't bare being away from their child and even in financial hardship quit work. Others find some kind of support, parents, friends, neighbor, professional care and jump right back into their careers. Of course are in the middle, do not want to be there but no way financially can they quit or extend leave. Others want to be in office yet feel very guilty.

i got the, share the job, duties back in 80's in our department. It was great with two women who were pregnant. i talked to both to see if they wanted to return when it becomes time or would they be interested in job sharing. I left it up to them as it takes a team to put that over. It requires close cooperation for them to be able to communicate , achieve objectives. Of course the two people who accepted were ideal for the situation. It gave them the time at home they still wanted, helped financially, and made everyone very happy.

I remember one women ex.water broke on the toilet. Almost delivered the baby in that department. I think she returned to work six weeks later. I guess what ever makes you tick!!!!
