Spending massive amounts of borrowed money, as Reagan did, does create a large economic commotion which feels something like prosperity. Stupid people can't tell the difference.

The downside is the economic depression which follows this "prosperity" when the nations cannot afford to take on additional debt.

Ronald Reagan created an economic catastrophe, just like the father who suddenly supplements his families income with spending on credit cards. It feels exhilarating, until he no longer qualifies for additional credit cards or credit limit increases.
