Agreed. Any govt attempt to shore up the Dow will fail miserably. Too many big, sophisticated players, all of whom are keenly aware of their illiquidity and therefore vulnerability--and won't be suckered into believing otherwise.

My take on things:

From a money manager's perspective, there are three major allocation choices: stocks, bonds or money markets. Traditionally, following a period in which stocks make a good showing, bonds are the financial instrument of choice in ther next period, and then money markets in the following period. Traditionally, you then start over.

Commodities usually do best in the third period. We may now be entering the second.
