It's not hard for some of us. Speak for yourself: <we have to try and temper our behavior, as hard as that is to do. > You find it difficult to think collectively for mutual benefit. Others of us do not. You think that government is the basis of mutual benefit, but that's incorrect.

Voluntary buying and selling is how mutual benefit is produced.

Your ideology of citizen serfs for kleptocratic confiscation is not collectivism, symbiosis, caring and sharing. It's the opposite.

Speak for yourself: <The brain is wired for pattern recognition not logic > My brain is wired for pattern recognition AND logic. Both work in harmony, in tune with ego and other people and animals too, not to mention the ecosphere.

"That question should be clear. We evolved to protect the tribe from wild beasts and other tribes. Male primates will sacrifice their lives knowingly to protect the tribe from say leopards."

Self sacrifice is sometimes a selfish decision so your DNA keeps going on down the line. You can call it love but jumping in front of a bus to protect someone you love is the ultimate selfish act.

"But today, we live in civilized societies where that sort of aggression is best saved for football. So we have to try and temper our behavior, as hard as that is to do."

Football, hockey, boxing, soccer and bull riding are excellent training for the real workaday world that we exist in.

"It is also the reason I would like to see many more women in government. They are not as instinctually aggressive as males."

I agree they burned their braziers and jumped off the pedestal of privilege and special rights and must be put to work. However in a democracy they will have to prove they are the most capable in order to be elected. Unless of course you are advocating another type of system. Most of the world is run by an aristocracy of lawyers who have granted themselves entitlements and privileges that would make ancient Rome blush.

I would prefer to see some computer based system in effect to run most of government and certainly all of the court systems. A computer based system will not bend or break the rules and cannot be appeased. A team of high priced advocates would be useless in the system I would implement. Appeals and calls for mercy or a second chance would not compute. I would hire WalMart or Costco to organize a new Federal regime in order to cut costs and save money. Millions would be saved on cashmere suits and silk shirts and ties to impress judges and juries as they to would no longer be needed.

"Well of course. In the nuclear age instinctual aggression will only get us all killed."

I'm a strong proponent of nuclear weapons. Using small scale thermonuclear devices in Iran and Pakistan right now would make a lot of sense and save mankind from the horrible aggression of Islamic jihad.

"The brain is wired for pattern recognition not logic and so in the end our evolution may end up being our demise as it is based on everything killing everything else to survive."

Pattern recognition allows us to save time by allowing us to be intuitive as most things follow similar patters, i.e. gravity - if you drop something it tends to fall to the ground and not up unless it is a helium balloon or you are in a different atmosphere. Patterns and logic go hand in hand.

"But some of us make an effort to rise above our animal instincts. We must at least make an effort to protect the world for the future generations."

Live long and prosper...
