He wanted to fan the political flames. Essentially, to feed red meat to his extremist base. Which he did. And now it has gotten out of hand.

There is no doubt he recognizes he made a mistake that only an inexperienced community organizer could have fallen for. But that is no reason to hide the truth -- that waterboarding saved lives.

I know I wouldn't want to make the decision on whether or not to send Cheney to the World Court.

Who really cares about what the World Court has to say. Curtis Lemay once said:

"Killing Japanese didn't bother me very much at that time. I suppose if I had lost the war, I would have been tried as a war criminal."

And he is right. His actions may have killed 1,000,000 Japanese civilians. Yet, he is considered a great military leader because he did what had to be done.

Cheney and Bush did what had to be done. And some may think of them as war criminals. A more intellectually honest person will recognize that they did what had to be done to protect the nation.
