Smart people have prepared for retirement using both. However, this latest huge financial mess, will torpedeo many retirement nest eggs for the people who are retired now. Many of those people have done everything right, and have been in the "sandwich generation," where they have taken care of their children AND their parents. Investments made over the years after taxes and care and education of children were hard to make, but we did. And now, through no fault of the individual, wall street, the political forces for the last 30 years, the greed of the whiz kids out of Biz Schools in the 60's to present, and of course, the housing debacle caused in large part by the PC House and Senate members have destroyed the savings millions of Americans had.
