Probably not a good idea. For one, the current flu is not so benign. A healthy 55-year old without complicating conditions just died in NYC from the swine flu. For two, you would likely be spreading it to others if you are infected. For three, there will probably be a vaccine available by next flu season. It's worth a thought, but probably not a good idea.

Getting one strain will not protect you if it mutates to a new strain.

Getting the flu is a bad idea because while it is not guaranteed you will die, the chances are definitely finite. It is hard to calculate the chance, but it is far better than that of getting struck by lightning.
