Hip hop on the Hill
Nia-Malika Henderson Nia-malika Henderson Tue May 19, 5:18 am ET

Buoyed by Barack Obama’s election as president, a group of hip-hop artists and other activists is taking to Capitol Hill — trying to harness the wave of support for Obama among young voters into an ongoing political force.

The group, the Hip Hop Caucus, has a nine-member Washington office — but its real reach comes from its ability to harness the power of hip-hop artists to put a famous face on issues and draw in their young, multicultural fans.

That's one way to get street cred ...

Or maybe not, it was the Beverly Center, not Compton.

Ever since the opening of "The Grove" open air shopping center at Farmer's Market in 2003, the Taubman owned Beverly Center and adjacent Vornado owned Beverly Connection have fallen on hard times in spite of very expensive make-overs.

After seeing their customer base vanish The Beverly Center decided to reposition themselves with a new urban theme.

Valet Parking at a $10 minimum appeared in front of the ground-level Macy's Men's Store, whose merchandise became increasingly bizarre - I assume reflecting their new customer base.

The 2 hour Valet tariff was recently cut to $7, but it's still an interesting study to see the type of status-seeking sociopath who parks there rather than self-parking upstairs at a rate of $1 for four hours.

Atlanta rapper, Dolla, had been involved in an altercation with other passengers on a flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles according to his publicist, Sue Vannasing.

Police today identified Aubrey Louis Berry, 23 from Georgia, as the man who allegedly shot and killed Atlanta rapper Dolla at the Beverly Center valet parking area.

Berry was arrested on suspicion of murder Monday afternoon at Los Angeles International Airport as he attempted to board a plane, said officials with the Los Angeles Police Department. He was identified as one of two suspects who allegedly fled from the mall in a silver Mercedes-Benz SUV after the 3 p.m. shooting at the La Cienega Boulevard entrance of the Westside shopping center.
