But I think the previous administration actually showed a great deal of restraint in that these methods -- which they had determined were legal (and apparently had congressional approval for) -- were used in very limited circumstances involving the "highest value" detainees only.

I'll agree it could be a slippery slope, but it seems well-contained in the instant case.

Agreed. Thats why I'm glad they stopped it in 2003 and only applied the EIT to 3 high level persons.
