You know, P&B was pretty much overlooked for 20-30 years as not being a serious work. In fact, I think most of Gershwin's work was. Rhapsody in Blue was ridiculed as a classical piece of music when it first came out. Of course, today, not so -- except for a few purists who insist the Three Bs are the heart and soul of classical music.

I'm very fond of the Three Preludes, particularly the C#m, as well as Rhapsody in Blue. But the Jim Cullum Porgy & Bess, which was released in the mid-80s, continues to be an all time favorite of mine. It is absolute genius. They used to go around performing the entire thing in small venues, but I don't think they do anymore.
