But the IRS will go after you anyway.

If you leave the US they still tax you unless you renounce your citizenship, and if you have accumulated a chunk of wealth (your retirement savings) they try to go after you even if you do renounce your citizenship.

This is one measure where the US is more socialist than Europe, at least the European countries let people escape with their money after they pay the initial income tax on it.
