If someone was trying to use his statements as an argument of authority - "He said it so it must be right", or even the milder "he said it so its very likely to be right", than his politics would be very relevant. Not so much in terms of the arguments that he makes, and if you do want to apply it to the arguments he makes, it would also properly apply to your arguments (and I suppose mine).

In simple terms "he's a libertarian", or even "he's an extreme libertarian", isn't an argument against anything he says, its only an argument (if one was even needed which I don't think it would be since no one made such an argument, and since such an argument would likely be rejected out of hand regardless of his politics) against the idea that you should relatively automatically defer to his opinions.
