<<He's where he is today because you've been there for him.>>

Not totally true - he's where he is today because he listens, is coachable AND has worked hard. This isn't about me at all - those boys played hard and as a team last week. This is a 4th & 5th grade league so they're all playing with kids a year older.

I looked like a complete juvenile last week (again) as I ran onto the field and gave all the kids high 5's. I didn't have time to coach this spring (I can't do the practices during the week). I've been pacing the sideline for 3 weeks and calling timeout LOL so the coach so the coach asked if he could work for me roflmao. I've known him for several years and I explained that I had no time during the week but it was impossible for me to stay out of the box and just watch so I'm going to help out for the remainder of the year.

I can't explain it - I'm exhausted by the end of the week but when I walk onto the field I feel like I'm 15. I'm not sure that fire ever goes away (I hope it doesn't). It's not about glory for me....it's all about the kids. I've coached almost every kid (and know them by name) on those fields and there isn't a game that goes by where one of them doesn't look at me after a good play. They're looking for approval and to hear "nice play.!" and they get it regardless of the team they're on. I don't take my sunglasses off (even if it rains) - I don't want the kids to see tears in my eyes bit the parents know it because I'll turn around, shake my head and give 'em a fist pump. I love every one of those savages - they make me proud. It's pretty cool - Barry Alverez (former UW coach - current athletic director)and the Governor's grandson have played on our teams. I think the Gov is coming in 2 weeks so we'll get a shot of him with the kids - maybe we can have the Gov call a play this year - that would be kinda cool.

It's easy to lose sight and focus about what's important when life is knocking you on your butt. For me, when I get out there it all becomes crystal clear - they are our fountain of youth. It almost makes me feel bad that in 2 weeks I'm going to have to help our 11 boys kick the asses and steal the dreams of those other 11 kids

But not really :)
