I know what they said. I was watching that unfold with the greatest of interest. It was one area where I was in 100% agreement with Bush at the time. I've since moderated my position given the recent stock market and economic calamity, but I still support some form of privatization of social security. We need to get that albatross off of our government's neck. I can't afford to pay for the current crop of retirees and my children will certainly not be able to afford to pay for my retirement. Everyone needs to start saving for their own retirement. I believe SS funds need to be tagged to SS#s. Let's make people responsible for their own welfare. I do believe the government needs to force a segment of our population to save for their own retirement and that can be done through SS, but tag it to their SS# and let's monetize that debt that no one wants to talk about today. THen we'll all understand the true costs of that program and can make some real decisions to change it.

What no one wants to talk about, Dems in particular, is that SS as it stands now represents a $40 trillion liability. Who the hell is going to pay for that?
