think i-dolt thinks obama should have gone to war rather than solving eco problems because both US and Germany fought their way out of last depression with that lovely interlude of WW2.

Of course the war is what ended the Great Depression. But in the meantime, FDR established program after program that has been unnecessary weight for our economy for years.

There are tons of examples, but the inordinate power given to unions is a very timely one, given that unions have now brought down two of the Big 3.

But that's one of many examples. The unemployment compensation rules are gone awry; as has Social Security.

I believe in giving FDR credit where he deserves it, which was in his handling of the War, which was superb IMO. But his economic policy was smoke and mirrors.

I've always believed that there is little a president can do to affect the economy on a short-term basis. Even Obama can't do much about it -- his wild spending, of course, will destroy any hope for our economy going forward -- in the long run, the trillions he is blowing will deplete our economy of growth and insure a future inflation crisis.
