The outrage of this is direct deposit is easier for the bank and cheaper than tying up a teller to take the deposit.

no kidding....

they charge a $10 charge if you want 'same day' payment for chase auto loans....i know because recently i tried to pay online because i got my statement quite late having moved...when i went to the website, they charge you to make sure your payment is applied the day you make it...the excuse they gave is because it takes a couple of days for the payment to 'clear...

well that is absolutely nuts...if you send a
check and they get it on the due date, they apply the payment on the day the check comes in, not when it clears...

i pay my US Bank Visa card in person by check frequently on the due date, i do it because i can 'control' when they apply the payment...there is never a fee charged because they have to wait for a check to clear

they do this kind of BS (excess fees) because they CAN...treating online payments differently than regular checks...it costs them more money by far to handle a paper check than an online payment

they should be giving YOU an incentive to pay online electronically, not the other way around

the only way to stop this BS is to do what you did, take your business elsewhere

I'm just reporting what some knuckle head said on the radio. I don't vouch for the accuracy of the report.

I do believe that the deal for we responsible credit users is going to get much much worse.
