It's really about motive. You might as well scream about there being a difference between 1st degree murder and other kinds. It's not a thought crime- it's just about the motive OF a crime. So why not equal protection for all murderers? Why make some kinds of murder worse? Because. Society sees a utility in it. Just as here. And of course, as long as there is a strong enough reason for the law, it works. It works for the Supremes, and it doesn't work for you. And there you are.

But whatever. I won't convince you and you won't convince me. I like what the Supremes said, and you don't.

Reading SI actually convinced me hate crimes are a good idea. Wasn't so keen on them, until I actually started meeting some of the haters. Very keen on those laws now.
