I heard a "story" about someone taking a full grown moose with a single .22 bullet.....it would be a miracle get the penetration or placement needed to do much damage with anything I could fit in my pocket.

10mm Auto with the same full copper jackets you use on the range will poke holes in any type of bear. However, by the time you get a round or two off, it is on top of you.
