It seems that most car models gain weight over time.

That's a good point. When I bought my first Z car, the baby blue 240 that the Bionic Woman drove, it was a sports car. My second one, a 280ZX, it was a standard-sized sporty coupe. I guess that manufacturers have to introduce new, smaller, more efficient models as their old ones get fat. Having said that, Nissan did re-introduce their Z car as a sports car after it was off the market for some years. Even tinnier than the original. That doesn't usually happen, though.
