I don't discount K because he is in a wheelchair; I discount his views because he doesn't show much evidence of having lived, worked or even traveled in all the complex regions of the globe that he writes about as if he is one of the great foreign policy experts of our time.

He hasn't worked in the US government foreign policy bureaucracy yet he professes to know exactly what our policies should be, how they should be carried out and what results they are likely to have.

It's no accident in my mind that he ended up as the chief advocate of a dogmatic, narrowminded policy school whose relatively brief experiement in actual implementation was tossed out on its butt by the electorate once they saw the actual results.

Would you trust a Washington pundit to dictate land management and urban planning policies for wherever you live if the guy had never so much as set foot anywhere near your neighborhood? Just because he claims to be an expert despite no academic training or hands-on experience in the field?

Whether you like Obama or not, he has training and experience in his chosen profession, beyond seminar rooms and editorial offices.
