Obama was on the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee for two years reviewing all the major issues in US foreign policy, and going abroad on official trips as a member of that committee.

With that level of experience, I wouldn't want him in sole charge of US foreign policy but with Jones, Clinton and Biden constantly around him, Obama has decades of experience to draw on.

The troops for Afghanistan were one item on a much larger agenda on that trip. We each focus on what we think is most important.
